Meetings

The club meets once a week. Meetings happen every Wednesday during term time, 7:30pm, in the Bentley's Wing. Meetings are a great way to:

Best of all, beer is now available from Bentley's for consumption during meetings. Who could argue with that? We (and the UCSA) ask that you don't take beer out of Bentley's or the meeting, however.

Term Three, 2008

Note: all meetings are subject to change, read the weekly emails to find out if any details have changed.

16th July - Avalanche lecture

First up this term we have Jorn Haack giving a talk on avalanche safety. With the fantastic amount of snow we have had recently, if you're planning on tramping (or skiing) anywhere near some steep terrain this winter, make sure you're clued up on the hazards of such travel. Jorn will be talking covering trip planning and safe travel in the mountains, and will be available to answer any of your questions. Afterwards get sorted for this weekend's snowcraft course and catch up with everyone over a beer at the foundry afterwards.

23rd of July – Mt Cass Wind Farm Information Evening

Come along to hear both sides to the debate over the proposed wind farm at Mt Cass in North Canterbury. Weigh up the advantages of renewable energy against possible harm to an ecologically sensitive region and make your own mind up.

30th of July - Honora Renwick

Long time Christchurch tramping club member, Honora Renwick, will be regaling us with stories about her trips around Canterbury and Arthur's pass. She has extensive tramping background in the area including many lesser-travelled routes; this talk will provide some great ideas for the budding young adventurers amongst us!

6th of August – Clip and Climb – Tom is organizing

This Wednesday we are heading to The Roxx Climbing centre to try out their 'Clip 'N Climb'. This theme park meets climbing wall adventure requires booking, look out for more details and sign up info in the weekly emails.

13th of August – Mystery Speaker,

In continuation of the great CUTC tradition of not confirming speakers before newsletter printing date, you'll need to keep an eye on the club emails to find out who will be educating and entertaining you tonight.

20th of August - Social end-of-term Meal – Tom is organizing

As the term comes to a close it is customary to reminisce about the wonderful trips you have been on. What better way to this then surrounded by all your tramping club buddies and our end of term club dinner! The plan is to head down to a local BYO Restaurant (yes alcohol is involved) and spend the evening with good drink, great food and even better people.
