Cave Stream & BBQ Day Trip Easy

Pack your bag with two lots of gear and bring a good torch as we’re going to get wet with some wicked underwater cave adventure - afterward travel to an idyllic stream in the Craigeburn ranges and have a BBQ before heading back to Christchurch in the evening. P.S. bring the insect repellent for the BBQ!

Avalanch Peak Day Trip Hard

A steep climb gets you out of the bush in very little time. Great views await the keen punters at the top. This can be practice for an ascent in winter with the track and surrounding peaks covered in snow!

Sudden Valley Day Trip Easyish

Don’t expect to have dry feet for long. This trip weaves its way through a spectacular gorge and then ascends the Devil’s Chute. Barrier Falls can be visited if you go off the beaten track. Great spots for swimming make this a must on the hot summer days.

Mt. Mueller Tops

Travel up on the evening before and soak in the hot pools at Maruia Springs, before ascending Mt Mueller.

Lake Daniels Women’s Trip

A women-only walk to Lake Daniels.

Casey Binser Easy–Medium

A popular tramp that crosses easy passes. Walk through Hallelujah. Up the side of surprise stream. Across rabbit flat and out to the road.

ß Mt. Manakau 2 Days Hard

Climb the highest peak in the seaward Kaikoura range. This is not for the faint hearted and some previous experience with rock scrambling is advised. Crampons and ice axe may be required.

ß Mt. Haast Victoria Range Day Trip

Follow a good track to the bushline and out onto straightforward tussock slopes to the summit. This is the prominent peak that is viewed when driving down the Lewis pass highway towards Springs Junction.

ß Sawcut Gorge Day Trip Easy

Our very own Grand Canyon. Visit this just north of Kaikoura and also see some seals.

ß Lake Kauapataka / Otehake Hot Pools Easy–Medium

One of the classic trips in Arthurs pass. Visit the scenic Lake Kaurapataka surrounded by lush native bush. Before heading into the Otehake to camp next to the hot pools. Sooth your muscles in the warm waters and let your cares drift away.

ß Lake Stream 2 Days Medium

A beautiful unexploredarea near Springs Junction. Great views if you go up to the pass. Camp at the small lake for great morning photos.

ß Mt. Technical Hard

Test your rock scrambling skills on the ridges of Mt Technical which stands astride the main divide above the Lewis Pass.

ß Waimak Col 2 Days Hard

A classic alpine crossing takes you into the heart of the park. Impressive scenery will greet you. While long days and difficult route-finding will challenge your skills. Ice axe and crampons may be required.

ß Mt. Torlesse, Black Peak, Red Peak Hard

This is a must for a clear Canterbury day. Begin at kowai river flats and climb to Mt Torlesse and across two other peaks. Climb three peaks in one outing, and if punters are keen they can traverse right across to Porters Pass. Carry lots of water though.

Easter Trips

ß Tablelands in Kahurangi National Park

4 Days medium

From Flora saddle climb up past the Gridiron rock Bivies to Salisbury lodge and then onto Balloon hut. Lake Peel is a good day trip from Balloon hut. If the weather is good, the return trip can be different, going via Gordons Pyramid with views of Mt. Arthur. Mt. Arthur could be climbed if people fell fit.

ß Nelson Lakes Medium

Trips from 2 days to 9 days can be taken in the park. Keen groups can visit the out of the way places and maybe climb a peak, while others can just walk the valleys and experience the beautiful beech forest. Travers falls can be visited on the way up to Travers hut and there are some high country tarns that can be camped.

ß 1000 Acre Plateau 3–4 Days HARD

Plus 100 acre plateau aka Devils Tabletop. Beautiful lake Matiri is passed on the way to the Plateau and can be a great nights camping. Mt. Misery and the needle can be climbed for a bird’s eye view of the Plateaus. Mt. Owen can be taken at the end if the punters are keen.
