Hey all,
Bush ball was AWESOME! Big ups to those that carried in the essentials, the
sounds and alcohol. Mad props also to TOM for being a LEGEND and carrying
a the (30 kgs) keg in!
For those that missed out, we cruised into Cannibal gorge (sounds tasty eh?)
in Lewis pass, The cars were raided for 6x9's, a battery and an amp. a
couple of hours walking saw us make it to a mint hut, despite Daves best
sprinting efforts, he couldn't catch those with the spirits, so no drink
stations were had. Balloons , a disco ball and a snow covered keg were
quickly set up and we got into (out of?) it! Beer-pong, flipcup and drinking
games galore made sure we were all properly pissed, some people even
sneaked of to the 'private' top level bunks for some 'quiet time'. ANYWAY, a
crisp (read: *&%*&%en cold) night meant the alcohol blanket was essential,
especially for the brave folks who slept outside!
Well done Dave and Tom, you outdid yourselves, I hope to see you all for
bush ball 09!
Meeting:
This week we have coerced Ian Gough into showing us some of his sweet alpine
climbing and tramping photos. We are back in our traditional spot at 7:30.
See you there.
Daniel and Laura

Trips for 16-17 August*
Sudden Valley <http://www.cutc.org.nz/tripview.php?tripid=4>
Starts from Hawdon shelter then follows the river into Sudden Valley gorge
(rapidly becomes impassible after only a little rain). Following track,
scramble up Devil's Chute and continue around Barrier Falls. Continue
upstream where the valley opens out and there are great views and camping
spots. It is possible to climb various peaks from here, but these are
medium-hard to hard.
Mt Aicken <http://www.cutc.org.nz/tripview.php?tripid=50>
A relatively easy walk up through beach forest and then snow tussock/ snow
to a summit with a commanding view.
