Hey kids!

This week we have face painting! A bouncy castle! And even CLOWNS!

No not really.

We DO however have the judging for the T-Shirt Comp. As well as the final
opportunity for PUBCRAWL signups. If your still not sure what pub crawl is,
(Are you living under a rock???) its an epic tour of some of the less known
drinking destinations in Christchurch – see more info later in the email.

Due to the awesome people that showed off their holiday trips last week (you
go girls!) T-Shirt judging was delayed; this means that there is STILL time
to get your entry in. Either bring it along on Wednesday or email it to
captian at cutc.org.nz.

As an aside, this weeks meeting is different to what has been previously
published. Our Mystery speaker will be later in the term.

Have a good week,

Daniel

-= PUBCRAWL=-

The annual tramping club pub crawl is happening Saturday 10th May from 2pm
onwards. We will be travelling around the Banks Peninsula to enjoy the views
while we can still see, then some mystery locations around Christchurch. The
bus will head into town at the end/beginning? of the night (a stop will be
made at the UCSA if town isn't your thing).

After some input from everyone the theme has been changed to Superheroes,
but if any still wants to come as an Xtreme mountaineer I'll give you a
beer.

Sign up at the meeting this week, the cost will be $20 this covers the cost
of the bus and some free drinks. We will meet at 1:45 at the UCSA car park
on Saturday in our best costumes.

So I hope you can join us for what is one of the classic events of the year.

Cheers,
Dave

Arthur's Pass Volunteering
Coming up is a voluntary kiwi survey work in the Bealey Valley, Arthur's
Pass, to confirm the presence and whereabouts of kiwi.
Also, beginning in July is a kea surveying and monitoring project.

>From the UCSA:
"We'd like to introduce more social events to encourage friendships for
everyone (international and domestic students) on campus, as well as create
a new 'International Student Council'. "
Interested? Email myself or international at ucsa.canterbury.ac.nz

Instruction course subsidies
The club wants leaders! So we'll subsidise people to attend courses run by
other clubs and organisations in order to encourage people to learn more.
See me, or talk to Vaughan/Ivor the instruction guys.

TWALK 17th-18th MAY
Circle the dates, get your team together and arrange your costumes because
Twalk (24 Hour Walk) is coming with the full moon in May!
Come to the meeting and see www.cutc.org.nz/twalk

-=Website=-

Anyone who has been to the website over the last couple of days may have
noticed a few changes:

   - We now have a forum as an alternative method of communication to the
chat list. Organise trips, social events, advertise a flat - whatever!
   - The trips database has finally been (almost) finished - you can
browse over 70 tramps in the south island, great for finding a holiday trip!

If anyone has any problems, comments or suggestions please email me!

Trips for May 10-11 *Bus Trip*
Hard Mountaineering, Drinking Skills required - 1 Night +

*Ball Pass*
A must do classic alpine tramping trip amongst some grand scenery. Although
easily done as a long one-day mish, it is far more enjoyable over two days,
especially as the days are now shorter. Some parts of the route are fairly
steep and there are also some potential navigation difficulties. Snow skills
a good idea, and familiarity with steep and loose terrain essential.

*Doubtfull River*
Easy to moderate - 2 day
There is a range of options up this Beech forested valley. A walk in walk
out trip to either of the huts in the valley would make a nice weekend away.
For the more adventurous, a crossing over into the Hope valley via the Lake
Man Biv is a possibility (hard in winter).

*Brass Monkey*
Moderate - 2 Day
>From the Top of Lewis Pass wander along the tops to a cute little 2 bunk biv
(or take tents), and descend via Rough creek the next day. Superb golden
snow tussock, and maybe even a bit of snow by this time!

*Mt Oxford*
Easy-Moderate - 1 day
This popular trip is more interesting and scenic with some snow on Mt Oxford
and the nearby ranges.
