Hey all,
I hope you all had a fantastic break!
With the days getting longer and the nights warmer its time to get back out
there! we have a great selection of trips going away this term, check out
the newsletter (coming soon to a meeting near you) and the website for
details. For those of you who can't make it to the meeting. Check out the
E-newsletter, also on the website.
To kick start the terms tramping, the plan for this Wednesdays meeting is to
head up to the Christchurch porthills for an after-dark walk. We'll meet at
6pm, sort out trips and then head to the cars for about 6:30.
You'll need:
- A headlamp (or torch)
- Walking shoes or boots
- warm clothes
- a waterproof jacket
- A car or a few dollars for your driver, (please bring a car if you have
access to one)
So come and see the spectacular sight of Christchurch all lit up. We might
even organise some fine weather!
Daniel & Laura *Trips: 13th and 14th September* Mt
Torlesse<http://www.cutc.org.nz/tripview.php?tripid=67>
Difficulty: Medium, Snow Skills Required
A good day trip to try out snow skills, depending on the snow conditions
either do the full loop or up and down the same way. All around good view.
Turn off SH73 below Porters Pass, at the 'big pine', and drive as far as the
3rd farm gate.Walk up the Kowai River to the John Hayward Hut. Across the
stream next to the hut take the prominent spur route up the mountain. Return
down the scree on the face of the mountain, to the east of the spur
ascended. Hawdon Valley <http://www.cutc.org.nz/tripview.php?tripid=69>
Difficulty: Easy-Medium
An easy river valley walk on the eastern side of the park. Hawdon Hut is a
relaxing three hours from the shelter at the start of the track. The area is
especially beautiful in winter. An interesting side trip leads up the valley
from the hut towards Walker Pass on the Main Divide.
