Hey folks!
We had a great walk up on the port hills last week, although the view was
arguably better half way up, dam clouds! Some people seamed to have enjoyed
the trip even more then others COUGH two nameless people at the back COUGH.
This week the committee has a vast array of (semi) useful skills to pass on
to you, we will have a rotation about three stations. Vaughan and Brian have
been 'roped' (heh pun....) into teaching basic knots, Darragh and Emma will
be enlightening us on some lovely facet of our outdoors, finally Hamish
and Tom will be passing on a sense of direction, possibly even involving
maps (I might pay attention to that one...).
We are back meeting at the normal time of 7:30 in Bentleys wing.
See you then,
Daniel

This is a good introductory overnight tramp to a hut situated by a large
lake and surrounded by attractive beech forests. Track starts at Marble
Hill. Thompson Flat, to the north of the lake, can be explored as a
side-trip.Cameron Valley <http://www.cutc.org.nz/tripview.php?tripid=37>
Difficulty: Medium
Duration: 2 days
Cameron valley is accessed via lake Herron and is set in the spectacular
Arrowsmith ranges. After an initial walk along the river, the track becomes
more interesting and the valley narrows. At the head of the valley is a
comfortable CMC hut (cash fee). An hour or so beyond the hut you can get
some very close-up views of the Cameron glacier (beware of ice-fall
though!).
