Hey gals and pals,
Hope all of you who came on freshers have had time to recover and are keen
to get out again this weekend and the next (and the one after that). We
know you all have stories, scandals and photographic evidence, so claim
your fame and get them published in TROG '09, just post what you've got on
our forum.
If you took home anything that is not yours please bring it along to our
meeting tomorrow night and we will try reunite items with owners, and if
you've ended up with less than you left with, we've got all the lost
property in the gear locker.
This week at the meeting we'll be holding our AGM so if you're interested
in helping out with the club there's a couple of positions on the committee
to be filled (newsletter editor and TROG editor) and we're always looking
for keen folks to help out with various other things. If this sounds like
you, come to the meeting 10 minutes early to have a chat with us or ask any
questions.
And of course Volker will be there to present trips and you can sign up
afterwards.
Remember! Our meetings are Wednesdays at 7:30, upstairs in the UCSA next to
Bentley's Bar.
This weekend's trips...

DESCRIPTION
Crater Rim Walkway
Tramping
Christchurch, Port Hills
(n/a)
Daytrip
An easy and relaxed stroll along the Port Hills with beautiful views over
Christchurch and the Southern Alps in the distance. The track is easily
accessible by bus at several places and multiple options exist, such as
Victoria Park to the Gondola, to Littleton or all the way to Sumner to
combine it with a swim in the Pacific.
Avalanche Peak
Tramping Arthurs Pass Medium, Snow Daniel/Jane
Daytrip
Classic daytrip from Arthurs Pass village to the summit of Avalanche Peak
(6-8 hrs) for great views. The top can be reached via two tracks so a loop
is possible.
Inland Pack Track
Tramping
Westland
Medium, Snow Volker Nock
Overnight (camping)
Located in Paparoa National Park, the Inland Pack Track was build for the
gold miners in 1867. The track is 25 km long and the recommended time to
complete it is 2 days. There are no huts on this track so a tent is
recommended and there is lots of excellent camping spots along the track,
there is also the impressive limestone overhang known as the Ballroom where
you can either pitch a tent or sleep on a roll mat. Warning: This is not a
track to keep your boots dry! There are numerous river crossings and the
the walk from Fossil Creek to Fox River/Dilemma Creek junction involves
walking along side and through the creek, and these rivers and creeks can
rise quickly following rainfall
Lake Stream
Tramping
Victoria FP
Medium, Snow James Lennox
Overnight (camping)
Mt. Rolleston
Tramping/
Mountaineering
Arthurs Pass
(n/a)
Daytrip
There are heaps of ways to make your way to Rolleston’s Low Peak, with the
Otira Slide (grade 1+) being the easiest way up and down. In summer
climbing the slide involves some loose scree and scrambling (helmets!), but
is otherwise not too technical for experienced trampers.
Gear Sale!
The R&R gear sale is on Thursday this week - so if you are interested in
getting kitted out, come along! There will be a tent given out to one of
our members and some really sweet deals. AND refreshements!
