 Hello folks,

Don't know about you, but we were pretty stoked to see Volker's forecast
proven nice and wrong over the weekend. Caught up with some of you at the
Arthurs Pass store (where the ice-creams are the size of heads!) and it
sounds like Otehake had some special moments...what's this I hear about the
hot pools being on the other side of the lake? There's only one thing to do
with moments like these...TROG 'EM!

This Wednesday is the meeting you've all been waiting for (you just maybe
didn't know it until now). It's the meeting of the *OFFICIAL TWALK
ANNOUNCEMENT!* That's right, TWALK! The 24 hour rogaining event that's been
going steady for over 40 years. TWALK's happening on the 2nd/3rd of May -
that's the first weekend of next term. Be at the meeting to get the lowdown
from Rowan on all things TWALK - how it works, how to enter, etcetera...
In the meantime you can try to quench your thirst for TWALKy goodness by
reading up about it on the website <http://www.cutc.org.nz/twalk>.

Great to see the forums are starting to get used, although I did hear a
committee member say "what forum?" last week. When you joined the club you
were sent an email with your username and password in it. Head over to our
website at www.cutc.org.nz then click on the forum link to get your message
to the masses!

See you all tomorrow,
Giselle and Brian

 daytrip
Easy day-trip with walk through attractive podocarp forest and nice view.
There are a few possible routes, the easiest following Deer Spur Track. The
poled route via Emily saddle is somewhat more difficult, but makes a nice
circuit. There is a small hut just below the summit.
  Croesus Track
 Tramping
 Paparoas
   tba
 overnighter (hut)
An enjoyable tramp through interesting West Coast bush up to open tops,
where there is a fantastic hut (very comfortable and views to Mt Cook!). The
Croesus track runs from Blackball to Barrytown, so unless two groups can
travel in opposite directions, a car swap enroute is needed.

  Mt. Faust
 Tramping
 Lewis Pass
   tba
 overnighter (hut)
Faust is the first summit above Boyle village and can be climbed via a
track leading to some nice tarns on the tops. From the summit it is possible
to drop down to Boyle Hut via the open forest.
  Cass-Lagoon Saddle
 Tramping
 Arthurs Pass
   tba
 overnighter (hut)
Classic trip into the Hamilton Hilton. Up the river to Cass Saddle, then a
descent through forest dripping in lichen, to Hamilton for the night.
Following up the Hamilton Stream the next day gets you to some tarns at
Lagoon Saddle, and awesome views into the Arthur’s Pass mountains. (also
makes a great days run)
  Purple Hill
 Pinetree pulling
 Christchurch
   Jane/Darragh
 daytrip
An easy day of wilding tree removal in the Flock Hill area. Come do your
bit to remove a major threat to the ecology of the area.
