Good afternoon, gang!
How were you feeling on Saturday morning, pubcrawlers? I hope your burnt
retinas are back to normal after baring witness to Ivor's saucy
transformation (from man-beast to man-breast?). There was plenty of bonding
on the bus and in the bars, it's nice to see everyone back up to their usual
tricks... If anyone can remember where on earth that bar was that had all
the free food, everyone wants to know.
Saw a few of you milling around at the Banff screening, aside from the
awkward jokes (what was *that *all about?!) it was a good show. I came away
feeling so inhibited by this damned will to stay alive, which you could
argue is a key factor in doing crazy things and living to tell the tale.
Conundrum! Might leave the free solo base jump climbing for another day at
this point.
Anyway, speaking of staying alive, this week at the meeting James Pettengell
(our resident "James" and club safety guru) will be giving a presentation on
bush safety and how to use common tramping items to your advantage when you
or someone in your party is injured. Think McGuyver, think fixing a broken
leg with an avacado and a toothpick (no?). Practical demonstrations will be
included. When you're out in the hills, even one person's minor injury can
be dangerous for a whole group and you never know how far away help might
be. But with a bit of knowledge and improvisation bad things don't have to
happen, yippee!
And of course, come along to sign up for trips. Although it's really a bit
early to say (and I hope I don't jinx it) it looks like the weather this
weekend might be a bit more agreeable for the masses than the last two.
Happy weekdays,
Giselle and Brian <captain at cutc.org.nz>
