Hello all,

Lucky us who made it out to the West Coast on the weekend! Heard the weather
here in town (and pretty much everywhere else) wasn't up to much...and still
isn't. But it looks like today might be laundry day (yay! sunshine!) for all
those stinky polyprops.

This Wednesday evening we've got guest speaker Peter Gough coming in to spin
an intrepid tale or two about his recent climbing trip in Oman. Peter's a
bit of a legend in New Zealand mountaineering - being one half of the first
team to make it up the gnarly Caroline Face of Mount Cook - as well as a
local to UC, you might recognise him from the front of one of your
electrical engineering lectures...

Also, this coming weekend is a long one! Be at the meeting for the inside
knowledge on where to be and what to do. Hotpools with our southernmost
counterparts perhaps? The tramping club down at Otago uni is sending up a
party to join us for a trip to Welcome Flats.
But whatever you're up for, three day weekends are a great chance to break
out of the regular overnighter mould and the perfect warmup for your
week-long (fortnight-long? Month-long?!) expeditions in the midyear
holidays! We'll give you some good ideas.

Next week is the last meeting of term which means we'll be having our second
TROG article prizegiving! There's still loads of time to write a story
before then, so get scrawlin', and if it's the most supreme you'll get away
with rather a nice reward...
On another TROGly note, where are those trip diaries at, eh? Haven't seen a
couple of them for a while (if you've been hording one, that's a 10 page
penalty!) Remember to bring them along on Wednesday after your trip or drop
them off at the gear locker so we can photocopy the stories (and have them
in the running for the prize) and pass the book along.

See you tonight!
