Hi hi,

The long awaited Avoca weekend is finally here! There'll be a different
route options for different skill levels and perhaps we'll get a wee soiree
going once we arrive. If you haven't heard, Avoca Hut belongs to the CUTC,
so if you haven't been there, this can be some sort of belated member
initiation ceremony. Are you worthy? Can you pass the test? Can you outsmart
the Sphinx...saddle?

Come to the meeting to put your name down and Ivor, our Avoca Hut Officer
(so *that's* what he does?!) will give you the lowdown on the hut's history
and surroundings. And then we'll all go have a beer.

If you haven't got time for an overnighter, there'll be the option of a
daytrip up Mt. Thomas in the Canterbury foothills.

It would pay to remember that writing TROG entries is a profoundly
pleasureable, productive and pleasantly profitable procrastination
past-time. Kieran has secured us another terrific prize from R&R
Sport<http://www.rrsport.co.nz>.
We'll be awarding this $350 sleeping bag to the best article submitted this
term.
Don't forget about the forums. If you've only got a minute you can
contribute to TROG by posting under one of our handy-dandy precreated
topics. Like this one
<http://www.cutc.org.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=121>where you can
help us compile the best quotes from the CUTC this year. Don't
be shy or embarrassed, you can always just blame goon.

Soon will come the time when this years' committee will have to pass the
torch to some of you young grasshoppers out there, so we'll be holding our
AGM in a couple of weeks. If you want to get involved read over the job
descriptions <http://www.cutc.org.nz/jobs.php> and come have a chat. There
are perks!

See you at the meeting,
G and B

A memorial service is being held for Ed on Friday, 12pm at Kennedy's Lodge,
Arthur's Pass. Club transport to Arthur's Pass for this will be arranged at
Wednesday's meeting - both for those wanting to go for the just the day, and
those staying on for the weekend Avoca tramp. If you want to go to the
memorial and can't make the meeting please email your details to
president at cutc.org.nz BEFORE Wednesday evening.
