Hi there new trampers (and you loyal old trampers)
Thanks for signing up for CUTC, now start making the most of it and come
along to the first meeting of 2010! The meeting will be held this Wednesday,
3 March, at 7:30pm in lecture theatre S1, this is just beyond the lawn where
we were at Clubs Days, in the science building. We normally meet in the
UCSA, but we've booked out a lecture theatre for this meeting, because it's
gonna be huge!
How huge? We had 297 signups during Clubs Days! We even ran out newsletters,
we'll have more at the meeting, so grab one if you didn't get given one (or
you can download the pdf on our website, www.cutc.org.nz). It will be by far
our biggest and busiest meeting of the year, so please be patient with
everyone and in particular our poor treasurers, they are going to have a lot
of receipts to write... Non-members can also join the club at the meeting
(and at any of our Wednesday night meetings), so if your friends want to
join, bring them along and talk to our membership officer Adam.
At the meeting we'll introduce you to the committee, talk about what we'll
be getting up to during the year, how our trips work and what gear you'll
need and how to get it. Then you'll be able to sign up for our infamous
first tramp of the year, Freshers. This will be an easy, social,
introductory overnight tramp (with not-quite-so easy options for the more
experienced) with river-crossing instruction before we head home. We're
providing buses, dinner and a BBQ, sweet deal right? So get a tent sorted
out and come along. This year it will be held at the classic Freshers
location of Mt Somers. All kinds of interesting things tend to happen on
Freshers trips, it's sure to be a good time! To get a place on Freshers, you
need to attend the meeting and you need to bring $20 cash (there's an ATM at
the UCSA, handily enough). If you can't come along on Freshers, there will
be several trips running every weekend throughout the term, and there's
plenty more to look forward to... hope you all have a great year tramping!
