3 Hour Christmas Twilight Rogaine 2010

Whoopeee! Come frolic on The Port Hills for an evening! HOHOHO!!!

In teams of two or more people or as an individual, you must navigate around the hills and collect as many cryptic checkpoints as you can in three hours (further information about 'cryptic' checkpoints below). The event start is at Victoria Park carpark, off Victoria Park Road. Car parking is at the main carpark. Register from 5.30pm onwards, and at that time you will recieve your map. There will be a short briefing 5 minutes before the race start at 6.30pm. However, you must plan your course cunningly, because you must be back at the car park by 9.30pm. If you don't make it back on time you may miss out on Santa's goodies!

The "Christmas Twilight Rogaine" is a 3 hour rogaine on Wednesday Evening, 15 December. Check in times are from 5.30pm onwards at the Victoria Park Carpark. At 6.30pm there will be a mass start where everyone is sent off in search of the checkpoints. Sunset is at 9:04pm which means teams should be arriving back soon after dark, so be prepared with headtorches etc. After the finish, there will be a brief prize giving and some baking.

Unique Team Section!!

'The 'Young 'n' old' section will included once again this year. In this section one team member must be at least 3 times the age of another team member. For example a team may include a 20, 30 and 63 year old, as the 63 year old is more than 3 times the age of the 20 year old.

Cryptic Clues

'Cryptic' clues will be given to aid you to locate the hidden checkpoints, which will consist of a card with a code on it. Once you find the checkpoint you must then write this code on your clue sheet in the space provided as evidence that you have visited the checkpoint. Checkpoints will be of differing point values as indicated on the map.

To give you an idea of what the cryptic clues may be like, here are some examples with explanations:

Clue: Third MIXED POTS from fence junction. Explanation: The checkpoint is on the third POST (mixed pots) from fence junction.

Clue: The old ent is thirsty. Explanation: An ent is a large tree creature from the Lord of the Rings, so the clue means the checkpoint is located on an old tree which is leaning over a stream.

Clue: Coleslaw 'on the rocks'. Explanation: The checkpoint is on a cabbage tree surrounded by rocks.
